The second quest guides you thru the real work. The aim is to prepare the samples and measure their activity.
Locate the working table and summon all the dishes, spatula and bottle with radionuclide. Combine the spatula with the bottle and select how much material shall be picked up. Using the spatula, fill the dishes with different amounts of the radionuclide. Feel free to transfer radionuclide to the dish multiple times, as the volume of the dish is bigger than volume of the spatula.
Confirm the acquired weight by putting the filled dish to the balance and enter the result to the Computer. Double check data consistency, i.e. assigning weight of Dish 1 to the proper field in the computer.
Different amounts of radionuclide in several dishes is essential requirement in this exercise. Can you tell why?
When the weight is known, is time to measure the activity. The shorter timespan between weight and activity measurements the better.
When setting the duration of the detection use rather more seconds. Longer measurement (given long-lived radionuclide) will yield more precise results. Repeat the measurement for all dishes and make sure you enter the activity to the correct field in the computer. As a rule-of-thumb for quick check, activity will never decrease with increased weight of the sample.
